Biographical Sketch
Superintendent Leo C. Brown Jr. has been preaching the Gospel since 1965 when he was called by God. His calling, compassion, and love for God’s people led him to form numerous ministries which include Prison Outreach ministries for men and women which are still going strong today. In 1972, Superintendent Brown founded the Progress House Association which is a group of halfway houses designed to help men and women re-enter society from the penal system.
Superintendent Brown received his Pastoral calling and in 1975 started The True Vine Community Church of God in Christ. In addition to serving as Senior Pastor at True Vine for 30 years, he is also the Superintendent of the Puget Sound District overseeing 8 churches. He holds the following positions in the Church of God in Christ Washington State Jurisdiction: 2nd Administrative Assistant to Bishop TL Westbrook over 2 years, Chairman of the Board of Superintendents for over 10 years, and he has served 15 years on Washington State Jurisdiction Executive Board. God has also blessed Supt. Brown to be able to serve on the National Church of God in Christ Elections Committee for over 5 years and on the National Rules Committee for 1 year.
Supt Leo C. Brown has also used his leadership abilities to serve his community. These are just a few of his numerous positions: He served as Commissioner for the Washington State Housing and Finance Commission for 10 years, he is the Founder and President of the True Vine Senior Citizen Complex, he served on the Governor’s Public Safety Advisory Group for the State of Washington, and he is listed in the Who’s Who among Black Americans since 1980.
For his outstanding Spiritual and Community contributions, Supt Leo C. Brown has received local and national awards some of them are The Key to the City of Tacoma, Washington, The Distinguished Citizen’s Award – Tacoma Urban League, and in 1982, the Governor of the State of Washington, the Mayor of the City of Tacoma, Washington, and the Washington State Pierce County Executive proclaimed February 6, 1982 as “Dr. Leo C. Brown Jr. Day!”
Superintendent Leo C. Brown Jr. is known as a Pastor of Pastors, a developer of leaders, and a lover of God’s people. He is a man with a vision, full of the Holy Ghost. If you would trace his footsteps, you would discover that he is a man who not only preaches and teaches the scripture, but he diligently patterns his life after them.
